What to Pack on Vacation

When it comes to packing for a vacation, most of us think about the clothes and shoes we want to bring. Often, we’ll look up the weather forecast for where we’re going, and then try to pack appropriately.

But clothing isn’t the only thing to consider when packing for a holiday.

There are a few tried and true items that can help the trip go smoothly, and they’re easy to pack in your suitcase. Don’t forget to add these items to your packing list:

Pack-able Backpack

The item I use most is my pack-able lightweight backpack. One I really like is the Venture Pal Backpack, which folds up into a small pouch when not in use. My backpack doesn’t take up much room in my suitcase. It’s easy to open up and throw in some water bottles and light jacket for a hike or day out. Another good option is the Pack N Fold Packable Backpack from ebags.

Rain Jacket

Another item which has been a great asset is a thin fold-up rain jacket. I may take warm enough clothes or it may be a warm weather vacation, but having a lightweight rain jacket has proved invaluable. If it doesn’t rain, it hasn’t taken up much space in my suitcase. But if it does rain, I am so glad that I have it. Two good choices are the Hount Women’s Pack-able Rain Jacket or Baleaf Unisex Pack-able Rain Jacket.

Small Wallet/Purse

I also love having a very small purse or wallet that I can carry with me if I am just walking through town. Heavy purses or backpacks can get cumbersome when you are shopping or out exploring. It’s perfect when I just want to carry a few items with me such as some cash, a credit card, my license or passport and my phone. Sakroots is a great choice.

Comfortable Shoes

Comfortable shoes are a must. Now you could stick with your tennis shoes as my husband does, but I like to have comfortable shoes that are also stylish. Here are a few of my picks: Sketchers BOBS with Memory Foam are great. I absolutely love the look and how comfortable they are. Sketchers sandals are also shoes that I can walk in for a long time. People rave about Treks but they are expensive and I have never tried them. Here is a less expensive option for fold-able shoes: Kruzers Foldable Slip On Sneakers.

Pact Women's Travel Wrap DressComfortable Clothes

I like comfortable clothes that are lightweight, versatile and easily-layered. I have several items from Pact Clothing that are perfect for travel. Made from organic cotton, their clothing is soft and easy to move in. I like the black wrap dress, which I can layer with a sweater, as well as their tank tops and leggings. I take basic colors that I can change up with a sweater and a few accessories.

bcozzy Neck Pillow

If you’re planning a long flight, I really like having my bcozzy neck pillow on the plane. While it can be a pain to carry on-board, it’s so nice to have it on a long flight. This neck pillow even helps me sleep if I am sitting in the middle seat or the aisle.

To ensure I feel rested, I also bring along my Nodpod, a microbead weighted sleep mask. The gentle pressure ensures no light slips through and also helps to ensure better sleep.

No Jet Lag

For international travel, I take these herbal pills to help with jet lag called No Jet Lag. They don’t make you sleepy or drowsy; they simply help you adjust to the time difference without that knocked-down-by-a-truck feeling that sometimes comes with international travel. I don’t know why they work, but they do. My sister, who travels extensively, swears by them too.

BONUS: Packing Cubes

Last, but not least, I use packing cubes to help organize my suitcase. They keep things tidy, and allow you to pack more efficiently. I put clothes into one of cubes as I use them, so dirty and clean clothes never mix. I can also fit more into my suitcase, so they’re definitely worth their small cost
