New Orleans is one of the largest cities and metropolitan areas in the state of Louisiana, in the USA. New Orleans is marked as the 46th largest city in the US, and full of tourism opportunities. It is no surprise then, that New Orleans has been ranked as one of the top 10 most popular cities to visit in the USA.
In 2004, 10.1 million tourists flocked to the city to get a taste of life in New Orleans. In 2005, the city hit its target, and broke its visitation record. By 2007, New Orleans had over 140 hotels and motels in operation, with over 31,000 rooms.
In terms of entertainment, by 2009, a poll covering travel and leisure of ‘America’s Favourite Cities’ ranked New Orleans at number one out of ten different categories, and was ranked in the highest first-place rankings of the 30 cities included within the poll. The poll also ranked New Orleans as the most popular U.S. city for a break during the spring. This was mainly down the promotion of the city’s stylish boutique hotel facilities, wild weekends, cocktail hours, bar and singles scenes, live music bands and concerts. The city also boasts an array of vintage shops, selling sought-after merchandise and antiques. Cafés and coffee bars and neighbourhood restaurants are also attractive venues for tourists looking for somewhere to relax.
