When to apply                          

The sooner a student applies for a student visa, the higher the chances of getting the visa will be. Basically, schools usually post the cut off grades for students to pursue different degree courses. Earlier applications mean fast processing of your documents. Due to a large number of applications, late applications will also take more time to be processed. This also has a major impact on when you will receive the visa.

Usually, visa officers approve student visas two months before commencement of their programs. However, this does not mean that you will not qualify for a visa due to a late application. It simply means that you will stand a better chance of acquiring that visa if you happen to apply early.

Age

There is usually no restriction on age limit to qualify for a student visa. Apparently, older students have higher chances of their visa applications being denied. This includes:

• applicants who are 25 years of age and want to pursue undergraduate courses
• 35 years or older for graduate studies.

Gender

Depending on your country of origin, female applicants usually have higher chances of acquiring student visas compared to their male counterparts. Mostly, more than 55% of student visas are granted to female students.

Unstable economies

Statistics also show that students from third world countries have lesser chances of acquiring student visas. This is because, besides the security issue, most of them intend to stay abroad as immigrants. Their visas are usually scrutinized and they go through several procedures to acquire the student visa. However, not all unstable countries are faced with this challenge. Iran, for instance, has major security issues. However, it is not considered as an unstable economy.
