World Event Spotlight: Pacific Islander Festival

From hula dancers to ukulele strummers, San Diego, California celebrates the cultures and customs of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia at the 18th Annual Pacific Islander Festival on Sept. 22-23.

Family and cultural preservation are the major themes at the two-day festival which joins people from areas including Hawaii, Guam, Samoa and Tahiti.

The free event held at Mission Bay’s Ski Beach draws crowds of thousands with continuous entertainment throughout the weekend, traditional music and dance, food and specialty crafts unique to each culture.
