Great Wolf Lodge
Finally — Great Wolf Lodge has arrived in Colorado! For those who’ve been hiding from the wolf and aren’t aware of the brand’s presence sweeping across the USA, we’ll fill you in.
Great Wolf Lodge is an indoor water park and emporium of games, shops and restaurants to keep the family entertained in one location with a variety of lodging options.
The Colorado Springs’ 50,000-square-foot indoor water park is exclusive to resort guests; therefore, look for deals online since enjoying the waterpark requires an overnight stay.
The Waterpark
The reason people come to Great Wolf Lodge is the waterpark. This new location is actually smaller than other Great Wolf Lodge parks, but still packs a punch with a multitude of water attractions.
There is a multi-level tree house water fort that combines treetop slides and spray stations, and the park’s signature tipping bucket dumps hundreds of gallons of water every four minutes.
The Totem Towers are three two-story body slides, attached to Fort Mackenzie. The Howlin’ Tornado is a six-story funnel slide. Mountain Edge Raceway is a four-story water slide with body surfing mats that allows riders to race one another.
Great Wolf Lodge in Colorado Springs
The Wolf Tail is a 360-degree ride with a vertical plunge through a trapdoor into an enclosed tunnel. Alberta Falls is a four-story enclosed tube slide.
Whooping Hollow has Kiddie slides exclusively for guests less than 52” tall. The Slap Tail Pond is a gigantic wave pool with waves reaching up to three feet in height.
Chinook Cove is a water playground for children of all ages featuring basketball and a poolside climbing wall. The Big Foot Pass is a water obstacle that challenges guests’ balance on floating logs and lily pads and hold on to hanging nets as they try to get across the pool.
Cub Paw Pool is a zero-depth entry children’s pool with water fountain features and spray-and-play adventures. Once your skin is wrinkled to perfect prune plumpness, there is The Great Wolf kids Program that offers a variety of programming for toddlers to tweens.
Make sure the whole family is prepared for each activity with swimshorts, goggles and Tevas from Colombia. Check out their selection of activewear for kids here.
Kiddos can ‘Wake Up with Wiley and Friends’ and enjoy Yoga Tails, a program for all ages in the Grand Lobby offering morning yoga.
Forest Friends Show
There’s a sweet Forest Friends Show and the opportunity for a Wolf Walk to learn about the many animals and wildlife living in the North Woods. Kids also make an origami wolf. During lunch, there are Paws-On Projects, face painting and balloon twisting, a PJ party with the Great Wolf Kids, games and a Jammie Jamboree.
Come evening, there is story time and a hustle and howl before it’s time to hit the hay.
When it comes to bedding down, here are the options. There are deluxe queen suites and wolf pup den suites that sleeps up to 5 guests, the luxury king suite, junior wolf pup den suite.
The queen sofa suite all sleep up to 4 guests, the family suite can accommodate up to 6 guests and the kid cabin suite, royal wolf suite, and junior gray wolf suite all sleep up to 7 guests. And, for the largest of families and groups, there are the gray wolf suites and majestic wolf suites that accommodate 9 guests.
Time for more kid fun. Scoops Kid Spa has ice cream-themed manicures and pedicures for young ones. For adults, there are organic pedicures. Ten Paw Alley is family-style bowling with pint-sized bowling balls. Families also love the Northern Lights Arcade, Howlers Peak Ropes Course, Rustic Ridge Climbing Wall, Oliver’s Mining Co.
Where you pan and sift dirt to discover gemstones and minerals to take home in a keepsake collection bag, a mini 9-hole golf course, the Clubhouse Crew with an interactive scavenger hunt through the resort starring the Great Wolf Kids characters and the most popular, MaqiQuest.
This is located throughout the floors of the hotel and you can hear the kids giggling in the hallways as they play the game. They can battle dragons, befriend a pixie and wave a magic wand in the live-action adventure game that has three unique chapters, each with its own challenges and quests.
Don’t forget the grub! New to the brand is a farm-to-table experience called Barnwood that is open for lunch and dinner. The Loose Moose Family Kitchen is open for buffet-style breakfast and dinner.
For sweet treats there is a Ben & Jerry’s and even better, there is a Dunkin’ Donuts for sugar rushes of doughnuts and incredible iced coffees.
The Outpost at Great Wolf Lodge is located in Great Wolf Adventure Park and features craft beer and signature cocktails. Hungry as a Wolf is also located in Great Wolf Adventure Park and has family meals on the go for lunch and dinner.
Once inside the park, beer can keep flowing. There is Buckets Incredible Craveables with burgers, hot dogs, small snacks. The Watering Hole has blended drinks, craft beer, and soft drinks. And yes, they do have cocktail service in the kiddie pool area, I tried it out to make sure.
