Water Temperature in the Azores

The sea temperature varies throughout the year from ranges from 17º C (62º F)_ to 24º C (75º F). Temperatures are higher towards the end of the summer season. In winter it is normal for the water temperature to be higher than the air temperature.

Water Visibility in the Azores

The visibility of the seas of the Azores can be as deep as 30 metres. Visibility varies according to the time of the year and the specific weather conditions of each day, and it is best during the summer months.

Sea Conditions in the Azores

The best diving conditions can be found on the south coasts of the islands. However, when the sea is favorable, diving on the north coast can also be a pleasant experience as long as safety measures are kept in mind.

Reserved Diving Sites in the Azores

The majority of diving spots are open to the public, but there are Marine Reserves that are diving restricted areas according to the time of the year. Local diving centers can assist with availability and reservation information.
