If you’re into world class jazz, you may want to head to Atlanta, Georgia during the month of May.

Located in the heart of the American South, Atlanta has a rich musical tradition. And it celebrates that heritage with a full-featured jazz festival each year that draws jazz greats from around the world.

Every day throughout the month of May there are performances in parks, restaurants, clubs and venues around Atlanta as part of this year’s Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Activities include live jazz in Underground Atlanta, Martinis & IMAX at Fernbank Museum, Jazz Under the Stars at Clark Atlanta University, Friday Jazz at the High Museum and Fiesta Atlanta in Centennial Olympic Park.

The annual “31 Days of Jazz” offers contemporary and traditional jazz, as well as smooth and eclectic music. Those who prefer big band swing or a Latin beat will also not be disappointed.

The lineup for 2012 includes Roy Ayers, Cyrus Chestnut, Kathleen Bertrand, Russell Gunn, Edy Martinez, Ojeda Penn and Johnny O’Neal.   Newcomers to the festival include the rhythmic Tito Puente Jr. Orchestra, soulful singer and saxophonist Grace Kelly, and the R&B and hip-hop influenced Robert Glasper Experiment.
