Downtown Sedalia, Missouri
  Historic Downtown Sedalia, Missouri

T
he beautiful curved streets of historic downtown Sedalia are lined with trees and 19th century architecture. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, Sedalia’s structural styles include Victorian, Romanesque, Classical Revival, Gothic, Beaux-Arts and Italianate.

Downtown, in addition to the courthouse, eateries and numerous retail shops, you’ll find the Sedalia Public Library, the first in Missouri to receive an Andrew Carnegie grant. Made of Carthage stone and terra cotta, this Renaissance Revival–style building is complete with a fireplace, oak woodwork and marble floors.

Hotel Bothwell, a seven-story building completed in 1927, sports a large neon sign signaling its locale. This Classic Revival–style structure is reminiscent of days gone by, with gold cornices, crystal chandeliers and crown moldings. The hotel, which has hosted well-known figures such as Bette Davis and Harry Truman, currently houses a Speakeasy lounge, coffee shop, restaurant, ballroom and the Ragtime Store.
