Dick's Barber Shop in Sedalia, Missouri
  Dick’s Barber Shop

F
or good-natured ribbing and men’s haircuts, Dick’s Barber Shop is a staple in downtown Sedalia. Located on Ohio Street, the shop was bought 46 years ago by Frank Dick and first opened offering US$ 1.50 haircuts.

When Frank was drafted for American military service, his twin brother Leo came to town to run the shop in his absence. However, Leo never left and he and his brother worked side by side for the next few decades cutting the hair of clients ranging in age from 3½ months to 102 years.

While the prices have increased slightly, the jovial atmosphere has remained
the same. Walk-in appointments are not only welcome, but are the only way to go, since the shop has no phone. The reason? A ringing phone is just not necessary — it interferes with cutting hair.

Frank retired in 2004, still filling in from time to time, and his son Brian now works there as a barber and is the next generation to own Dick’s Barber Shop.

The sign at the entrance reads:

Haircut & Flat Top US$ 11
Beard Trim US$ 5
Shampoo US$ 5
Head Tonic with massage US$ 8
Face Massage US$ 11
