Where in the World?

Tall pine trees blow gently in the crisp mountain breeze. White sand shores encircle the aqua, boat-dotted lake. With a surface area of 191 square miles and 72 miles of shoreline, this is the tenth deepest lake in the world.

Centuries before the lake’s discovery by Europeans in 1844, Indian tribes held sacred ceremonies along its southern shores.

Since the 1920s, paved roads have brought large numbers of visitors to this major vacation destination. Grand homes with enviable mountain views are scattered along the shore and nestle within the pines, private escapes from the outside world.

Three hundred days of sunshine make this a perfect destination to explore the outdoors and take on a full range of activities, from canoeing to skiing. On land or in water, in summer or in winter there are activities for everyone from thrill-seekers to vacationers desiring a peaceful retreat.

The idyllic scenery adds to the area’s attraction as a favorite destination for competitive sporting events, especially during the snowy winter months. In the summer visitors and locals enjoy golfing at the lakeside village on numerous well-designed courses.

Where am I?
