Lately

Editor's
Note
Lately, the world has
seemed
strange and hostile. War, bickering between allies, and now the ravages of SARS have taken their toll on
travelers.
It’s human nature to want
to stay close to home when the world seems unsettled. Yet I wonder if this
isn’t the best time to get out
and explore
this great big globe we
all call home.
For travel, I have found, has a way of righting my world again. After all, the
chance to step outside one's own busy life for a moment can bring a much-needed
fresh perspective.
Perhaps it was this inborn
knowledge that made my grandpa pack up his bags and head to
Africa when my grandmother
passed away. Even though he had never been overseas before, he seemed to know that a form of healing could be found in the rich plains of
Africa
that could never be achieved in his lonely American home.
My uncle
inherited this travel knowledge. Whenever he needs a break from his routine
life, he hits the road. He's been known to board buses in Mexico just to see where the road
might lead. Such experiences are invigorating, and he always comes back
re-energized.
For me,
the best part of traveling is quite simply the people I meet.
I’ve found kindred spirits in countries all over
the world. I always amazed to find that even though we may grow up speaking another
language, following a different religion or even being separated by twenty years
in age, we can still have such similar interests and views.
Our world is so much more
than headlines and political rhetoric. The chance to see new people and places reinforces that.
That’s our goal with Go
World Travel. We want to bring the world to you, offering stories from around
the globe. During the next few months, our international team of writers will take you kayaking with whales
in Manitoba, hiking
in the English countryside, shopping in Alabama, and snorkeling in the
Caribbean. We’ll share funny, scary or exciting travel
stories, as well as poignant insight on the spots of earth our writers call home.
We'll
introduce you to fascinating people from all corners of the earth.
This month, check out
“Aching for
Burma,” a story about a former princess who is now helping her people from afar.
Then to top it all off, you will find
informative articles packed with details and tidbits to help with your own
holidays plans.
This is your magazine. Let
us hear from you. What would you like to read about? How can we improve?
Travel is enjoyable and
exciting. Best of all, it can bring people
together, one person at a time. Go World Travel is all
about being an international community of people who have a passion for
exploring this world – in your own back yard or halfway around the
world.
Best wishes,
