Girls from Palestine, the Gaza Strip and Israel come together in a unique program called "Building Bridges." |
Editor’s Note
Adva and Rawan dream of the day when they can meet for lunch and no one will think anything about it. It seems a small thing to ask, really. Yet for these two young women, who met when they were just 17, it would mean a big step forward in the hostile world they have grown up in.
For there is one thing very unusual about their friendship: Adva is Israeli and Rawan is Palestinian. Although such friendships can be dangerous, the young women, who are now in their early twenties, meet whenever they can.
The two met at a very unusual camp called “Building Bridges.” Now in its 12th year, this small non-profit organization, run by Coloradan Melodye Feldman, brings together teenage girls from Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The result? Many girls have reached a new understanding of each other, and they now share a common goal of working toward a peaceful existence for themselves — and their future children.
This month, Go World Travel brings you the story of Melodye Feldman and this incredible grass roots program. From there, we head to Parma, Italy, for an inside tour of that region’s culinary delights, and then soak in Ithaca, New York, one of the few cities where the culture of the '60s and '70s still thrives.
Playwright Christina Hamlett offers her true-to-life tale of the spooky B&B run by cats (or so it seemed) and we hear the ghostly tales of the Tower of London from those who live there.
There are over a dozen exciting destinations in this month’s issue of Go World Travel. We hope you enjoy it.
Happy journeys!
