Humming along
Ever fed one of those high-energy hummingbirds by hand? Now you can at Lake Hope State Park in the Hocking Hills region of southeast Ohio. Each Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m., through Labor Day (the first Monday in September) visitors can watch a video and learn how to hand feed one of those tiny ruby-throated speed demons. Giddy up, mule!
The lowly mule is celebrated each year in the small town of Benson, North Carolina, and the annual event draws upwards to 70,000 visitors to the community of 3,900 people. The 5th Annual Benson Mule Days Celebration will be held September 22-25. Visitors get to transverse the town on horses, mules, wagons, campers and a variety of unusual equine contraptions, celebrating the farming tradition of the mule.
