Jefferson Hotel

Five Cents Worth
In celebration of the launching of two new U.S. five-cent pieces, The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia, is offering guests who stay between April 1 and Dec. 31 a chance to stay for five cents a night. Why? One of the new nickels bears the image of Thomas Jefferson, America's third president. To be eligible, guests must book a Friday and a Saturday stay. There will be one winner each weekend, except for the weekends of May 13-14; June 24-25; and September 8-10. For more information, go to www.jeffersonhotel.com.

The ‘Quenchmeister’ Strikes
The 20 Loews hotels in the U.S. and Canada are pitching a new beverage menu for kids, a healthy one that includes tasty, high nutrient, low-sugar creations by a resident “quenchmeister” at each hotel. The drinks come with such titles as Pink Cow (milk and strawberry smoothie), Monkey Business (banana, coconut and chocolate soymilk smoothie) and Purple Nurple (a blend of grape and pomegranate juices and seltzer water). For more information, go to www.loewshotels.com.

Grand Junction Wine Country

Calling All Oenophiles!
Wine aficionados (or oenophiles) will be celebrating wine on rails, so to speak, during the second annual Spring Blossoms Wine Train from Denver to Grand Junction, Colorado, April 8-10. The three-day outing starts aboard a private Amtrak train that winds its way through the Rockies while passengers enjoy a wine seminar. There will be off-train tastings and wine samplings as well and two nights’ accommodations off the train. The price is
US$ 332 per person, based on double occupancy. For more information, call 303-759-4000 or go to www.visitgrandjunction.com.

Register That Cruise!
Honeymoon cruises have long been a popular option, and online bridal registries now make it possible for friends of the bride and groom to gift from the far corners of the planet. A new online registry ― www.honeymoonvoyages.com ― allows friends and family to contribute to the couple’s honeymoon at sea. Guests can view the cruise selected by the couple and contribute “voyage credits” in US$ 50 and US$ 100 increments. For more information, call 800-676-4393 or go to www.cruisesinc.com.

Island Outpost

One Love, Man
And speaking of music, to honor the 60th birthday of the late reggae artist Bob Marley (he died in 1981), the Island Outpost collection of hotels in Jamaica is offering a special “One Love” package. Guests who book five nights at any combination of the four Island Outpost boutique hotels on the island will receive an iPod Shuffle and a customized tour. Optional tour destinations include the Bob Marley Museum, or Nine Miles (Marley’s birth place) or ReggaeXplosion, an audio-visual museum dedicated to the history of reggae. For more information, call 800-688-7678 or go to www.islandoutpost.com.

Guitars Galore
Many communities have had public art projects to raise funds with animal sculptures throughout their city ― pigs, ducks, fish, horses, cows, even dolphins. But Nashville, Tennessee, will do it a bit differently starting this month. Called “GuitarTown,” the project will have larger-than-life Gibson Les Paul and Chet Atkins model guitars adorn the city parks, businesses and street corners. Music celebrities such as Marty Stuart, Dolly Parton and Steve Earle will collaborate with the artist to bring 50 10-foot-tall (3 m) fiberglass guitars to life. The citywide project culminates in November. For more information, call 800-657-6910 or go to www.musiccityusa.com.

Mobile Mobiles

Mobile Mobiles

Who can blame them for complaining? Being an infant in a rear-facing car seat with not much exciting to look at but the roof of the car is not exactly what one would call fun. But baby’s boring road trip days are over, and parents can finally relax. Mom-invented Auto Mobiles are portable mobiles that easily attach to the car’s fabric headliner with Velcro fasteners and don’t obstruct the driver’s view. Simple patterns, bright colors and expressive characters dangle from the car ceiling and hold a child’s interest. Parents won’t have to fish for toys in the back seat anymore. Auto Mobiles come in five different designs: Garden Friends, Sports Fans, Baby Racer, Barnyard Buddies and Galactic Pals ― stars, spaceships and planets glow in the dark to entertain even little night riders.
