It’s been called the “Daddy of ‘em all” — and for good reason. Cheyenne Frontier Days is one of the world’s largest open-air rodeos and cowboy competitions. The 10-day western celebration is held the last week of July in the high plains town of Cheyenne, the capital of Wyoming.
Cheyenne Frontier Days has been a beloved annual tradition since 1897, when the town was just a dusty rail stop. A century later, Cheyenne is home to 53,000 residents and retains its friendly, small-town character.
In fact, Cheyenne residents are the real story behind this popular cowboy event.
Some 2,500 volunteers work year-round to make this high-octane Western event a success. Even children and teenagers get involved — serving breakfast to hungry visitors, emptying trash or offering directions with a friendly smile.
This volunteer help is vital, because more than half a million guests attend Wyoming’s most popular cowboy event.
